Frequently Asked Questions

Got some questions? Here are some common questions about periodic tracking, but if it’s not covered here just contact our friendly team.

Periodic tracking means updates – or “pings” – are sent when required, rather than on a realtime basis.

While this may not be suitable for every use case, it does have certain advantages over realtime tracking such as hugely increased battery life for the tracker.

Periodic tracking has a number of key benefits, including:

  • Lower ongoing costs compared to realtime tracking
  • Hugely increased battery life for the tracker (with some trackers capable of around 10 years battery life)
  • Get only the data you require, when you need it
  • Pings can be configured on virtually any schedule you need, or when certain events are triggered.

There are many use cases for periodic tracking, but some of the more common ones are:

  • Low cost asset tracking, such as tools, pallets, shipping containers, trailers, caravans and more
  • Heavy equipment like agricultural equipment, earth moving machinery etc.
